Your good to go but there are some things you should check. You could always go turbo on the stock motor and run low boost. I am about go boost on mine but I am building motor now instead of later. I have 132k miles

If you are going turbo your tranny cant take 300+hp for long, you will need W58 or R154 tranny
Do all maintenance on motor
You'll be needing a new waterpump soon if urs was changed on time.
Check spark plugs for oil to see if there is a leak in the head
check harmonic balancer
Good compression good to go

What do you plan to do for a turbo (kit or piece one together)?
Whats your plans for engine management/computer?
How much hp do you want to run?

Yeah I'm getting mine boosted its done waiting to get tuned I went with a AEM standalone because of a great deal I got on it.. I heard the same thing about the tranny I also have a 5 speed I'm looking about 350hp or so do to the weak tranny I just hope it last untill I can find a w-58.. My tuner will cut back my torque to help perseve my tranny..

That is a car with a lot of miles and and there is a lot of work to turbo it. If you are planning on piecing the kit together I would say it is not worth it. If you have the money to do the build all at once it will be much more worth while. It is still a large amount of work and money but having it done professionally makes more sense than not. Also, keep in mind that a car with that many miles on it is due to have maintenance issues come up in bunches that can be discouraging and be very costly too.

Yea even though mine runs great I am rebuilding it for reliability. When I started I got a turbo kit, transmission, and thought I was done. Since than I have spend thousands on more parts! Good computer by the way

Only new things I need to finish my build right'
GTE Headgasket
Rod Bearings
Valve springs
AEM wideband, Boost gauge, Oil pressure gauge
Clutch/flywheel kit for my R154 tranny

Just there is around $1000, and thats just the finishing touches. Good luck
