04 IS Re-Key
Well, whyen I bought my IS the only key I was given was the Valet key.
I have checked out the local locksmiths to see what it would cost to reprogram the ECU and it looks like it will be about $280 for the re-program and a new key.
Has anybody done this in the past and what results did you have?
Is there anything I should be aware of if I have this done?

valet keys suck.
to get a legit copy of your key (with full use of alarm, trunk, etc.) go to a lexus dealer and ask where to go to get a new lexus key. if they wont help you, which i dont know why they wouldnt, then go somewhere where they sell used lexus vehicles in your area. here in hawaii, i believe there is only one place on the island. it's expensive, but worth it. i made an extra copy of mines just in case.
someone in your area HAS to make keys for lexus.
also, they will need the old key (broken is ok) and a new key (provided by whomever you get one from) in order to rekey. it takes about a minute or 2 for them to do. it's actually kinda funny watching them do it. you'll see...

I was told that since I don't have a master key, I have to have the ECU flashed. I can get the key code for the vehicle and have a new key made BUT because of the internal chip not being associated with the ECU, the ECU has to be reflashed.
I guess I will just try and see if the local guy here in town can make the new keys masters.
I'll post up my findings when I get it done.
