Interested in Buying Used IS
Hello Guys.
My GF is in market for a car, and first thing came to me was IS (if we can find one around for 20k)
Is there any common problems with car?
and What should I expect to pay? and what should I look into it before I buy it?
Any tips?
Thanks for reading my thread.

My 2003 has 43,000 miles and I have had absolutely no problems. I get 26 MPH highway with the 5 speed. I got 35,000 miles on the first set of tires although there was a sticker on the rear window when I bought it warning that I might get less than 20,000 on tires. The OEM tires are an aggressive compound and soft. I changed to Bridgestone 760s in 225 width all around and love them. Very good in the rain too.
My only complaint is that I wish that 5th gear was a higher ratio (more like an "over-drive" gear) for even better mileage on the highway. The IS300 has plenty of torque for that.
I see that you live in NY. She should know that the IS is a handful in snow. The rear wheels spin quite easily on snow because of the torque. So your girlfriend may find it scary when the rear end shifts around with the slightest application of throttle. There is a "SNOW" setting, a kind of traction control, to limit wheel spin but it is not that helpful. A front wheel drive car with less torque would be better if she must contend with a lot of snow and ice. I'm 64 years and think about those things for my daughters

only real complaints i have heard about the car other than things that are going to be driver specific, are the seat belt squeak, sunroof trim rattle, brake clunk, and CD changer problems on the earlier years.
Seat belt squeak is really only noticeable if you drive around w/ the radio off by yourself.
sunroof rattle is a quick and easy fix.
Brake clunk is pretty much only the first time you use them in forward after revearsing
The CD changer isn't that big of a deal there are plenty of people that upgrade and sell the stock ones for decent price if you do run into a problem w/ it once the warranty is gone.
