Buy a high mileage IS?
Hey right now I have a 93 GS300. I've seen 2001 IS300's with 100,000 miles on them. They're priced around $14-15,000. Would you guys recommend gettin one? My GS300 has 167,000 miles on it.

If you have a GS w/ that many miles on it, then you are probabbly aware of the things needed/not needed w/ a car at that millage. Just make sure you either check the car out, or have it checked out before making the purchase, and i'm sure you won't be un happy.

I would be really cautious buying a newer car with that many miles. Just make sure they have maintained the car fully and have those records on hand. Having a dealership inspect it before buying would be a good idea too. Good luck.

Well I'd be buying it from a dealership. So I'd think they have all those records on hand. Have you guys had any problems with yours? And what would be a good way to test it out when I'm test driving it?

If it is a 5 speed, think about the cost of replacing the clutch - expensive and you will pay for it. Since you are asking about what to look for, it sounds like you are not too familar with cars. Good advice would be too take the IS to a good independent service shop and have them drive the car and do a thorough inspection. That will probably cost you $90. But that is the only way to be safe. If the IS is elligible for a 5 year additonal warranty then pay for it - but I doubt with the age and miles that it is. So you probably are assuming responsibiliity/risk for EVERYTHING that goes wrong.
Frankly, you would be better off buying a used car with fewer miles (less that 45,000 miles) with the the $15,000 (an Integra say) , than buying any car with 100,000 miles on it. Sooner or later it is going to cost you a bundle in repairs i.e. clutch with flywheel, brake rotors and pads, timeing belt, water pumps, etc.
