Slightly Rattle/tapping noise from under the car when idle
Is it normal that the valves are making slightly rattle noise when the car is warm and the gear is either on parking or neutral gear/ idle?
I have slightly rattle sound from under the car when my car is warm on neutral or parking gear.
Dealer believe it was normal, becuase when I put the gear on drive or reverse == more load, the slightly rattle/tapping noise is gone.
BTW, I have automatic, the noise only happend when the engine is warm and @ idle, but no noise at all when the engine start up cold @ idle.
Could it be a fuel injection or valve?
Thanks

Seriously though - have you ridden in another IS to compare the noise it makes to yours under similar conditions?

Pardon my ignorance on the IS models ......
do these come in 5 speeds? if so, could be the clutch plate.
i don't think they do though if i recall. just throwing that out there.
I'll go back to my SC world now

I've actually noticed mine(auto) has a rattle but it only does it right when I crank the car. So who knows!

creaking
Hey my car has this awful creaking sound it makes coming from the front. Process of elimination, it has to be my Area51 sways. Just grease them up and no prob. But since you said it was at idle when it creaked, it can't be the sways. Good luck fixing the problem though.

yes I have heard same rattle/tapping noise when car is first started-up and idling only.it doesn't seem to affect anything performance wise and seems to subside quickly.the only thing i can think of that creates this noise is the exhaust at the higher start-up idle.i checked all the heat shields and all are tight.the funny thing is you will never hear this unless you are outside of the car.inside its totally quiet.i will probably have it checked at 5000 mile service, but will have to leave it for awhile so they start it cold to check.if you happen to find what is making the noise please post.thanks matt

I have seen little rocks get stuck in the bracing for the hangers on the muffler or exhaust piping. At just the right engine speed, they will vibrate and make a noise that you can hear if you back your car out of the garage and get out to get something. If your in the car, you have to listen really hard and have everything of to hear it.
Best thing is to note it at your next service.
