20% MPG Drop After Bridgestone Alenza
At about 120k I changed the bald tires on my 2008 RX400h to Bridgestone Alenzas at Costco that seem to get high reviews here and elsewhere. However, the mpg as reported by the trip computer and the speedometer has gone down 20% consistently. I drive from Seattle to Portland regularly with the same driving pattern/cruise speeds. Earlier I would get 27mpg and now I get 23mpg. Also, when I drive 40-50mpg in local roads I would easily get 28-35mpg and I am finding it hard to achieve that.
I have a tire pressure gauge that is accurate to 0.1psi and I maintain all at 36psi I am running out of ideas of what else could go wrong either w the installation or the tires. Please help

MPG drop is to be expected when you switch from Low Rolling Resistance tires like the OEM, to non-LRR tires like the Alenza. Mine dropped about 3 MPG going to the Yokohama Parada Spec-X (great tires in every other regard), and I will definitely switch back to LRR tires next time. Looking at the Continental PureContact with EcoPlus Technology for my next tire.
Tirerack.com has an option to filter by LRR tires only.

I am needing new tires and probably going to go with Michelin Premier. They are supposed to be great with mileage. But either way it sounds like you get great mileage...I used to make the drive between Portland and Seattle a lot before I moved to Phoenix and I always only got about 25 MPG on I5. And in town I averaged about 21 MPG. Since being in Phoenix I have been averaging 23 MPG but I am sure that is due to flatter and smoother roads along with less stop and go.
