Have deposit on 2006 400H - What do I need to know?
Very happy LS 430 owner looking to add another Lexus to the garage.
Car is a 2006 RX 400h with 73K miles. It is in excellent condition and drove well on test drive. I plan to get vehicle inspected by a Toyota dealership tomorrow. Also have not seen Carfax yet, but should get that first thing tomorrow morning as well.
Read alot of stuff on here regarding what to look for, and this is what I have come up with so far:
- Check for signs of leaking coolant - related to inverter failure
- Vin # appears to fall within the range of vehicles recalled for inverter/ IPM issue (from this link: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs...3V396-2305.pdf) - will have Toyota check to see if recall was done
- check one-touch sunroof/ window open/close function. - If not working, have ISC and window/ sunroof controllers reset
- check for signs of VSC issues
- check braking system for signs of issues
Anything else more specific I need to keep in mind? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I know this probably won't help you before the purchase, but I recently picked up an 06 400h with 99k miles. I knew going into it that there could be some service issues that needed to be addressed. I went to the Lexus website and signed up for a mylexus account. When I put in my VIN, I was surprised to find all of the service records. The thing had been serviced regularly and had the scheduled maintenance done on time or early.

Also check for coolant leaks at the seam between the engine and transmission. A coolant leak there requires a new transmission. Check the AC to make sure it works well. It is an electric compressor. And check for radiator leaks. None of these are common problems. Just expensive things that I have seen people occasionally have issues with.
