Oil Filter housing Stuck!
My oil filter housing is so tight that I broke the filter housing removal tool, trying to un-screw it.
I have complained to the $tealer who would have changed the oil last time since I bought it from them, but they are denying any wrong doing.
What can do to get the filter housing to budge? Is there another tool that I can use?
I used the standard round one, which broke, I tried another one that has 2 U shaped pillers but that just spins around.
Can I change the Oil Filter without changing all the oil again?

Not a dealer's fault. They always tighten everything well.
All you need is a good tool.
Maybe this will do.
I have similar craftsman wrench that tightens itself as it turns. Worked wonders on removing the oil filter housing.
Something like this might even be better (not sure about the size).
Bottom line, go the local Sears hardware and find what you need.

I tried both these tools and the round one broke at the nut, the 3 prong one bent.
BTW, both of these are available at Auto Zone for $5.99 each.

I also tried that U shaped one, but it did'nt work at all. I bought another one with 3 prongs and I will try it tomorrow.
I am also trying to make a second one that will gripe the 2 ears at the top of the housing just for additional leverage. will let y'll know when I am done.

Good luck! I wonder if you could just take it to the dealer and ask them nicely to loosen the filter for you.
I find Lexus to have a great service, so they might just do it for you. You could get a free cup of Joe and a car wash while you're at it.

When you mentioned that the round one broke, were you referring to CTA model 2485 which can be purchased from a Toyota Dealer which is designed specifically for this filter?

I have tried all thre types. the round one has a center which broke off as shown in Pic. Even this one I had to put some tape on teh inside and then put is a couple of peices of aluminum so that the tool grips the housing.
Maybe it was a defective peice.
The other two do not work at all as they do not grip the oil filter housing and just keep spinning around it.
I did not get a chance to take it to the dealer this week end, but I might take it to them tonight.

Typical response; deny any wrong doing. Over-tightening does happen. As there is no torque setting and instructions that include 1/4 turn after contact people tend to tighten until it cannot turn. Add some oil to lubricate and it can be on TIGHT.

Well FINALLY its off.
The tool from CTA worked since it is the right size
I paid $16 for it at the Toyota $tealer, while I could have bought it on Amazon for $5.
The difference is that most tools are standard sizes of 2.5" to xxx, but the Toyota/Lexus oil filter housing is 64mm wide. I know it is just 1mm difference, BUT I can tell you from personal experience it made a lot of difference when it came to having a good grip.
This 1mm is the reason the other tools did not work at all.
So please do yourself a favor and get this CTA tool.
Hope this helps others

BTW, I did ask theToyota $tealer if their tech could take 2 minutes to see if they can losen it for me, and they refused saying it takes a lot of his time to leave and he could not touch my car unless they process the paerwork for service.
