Default New to us 2008 RX400h - Need Help ASAP

Hi all,

We just bought my wife a 2008 RX400h with 69700 miles on it to replace her 01 RX300. Lexus service records indicate that the truck got a Service B at 25K. It hasn't been back to them since. Iassume the orignal owner had the oil changed and filters changed at a local mechanic. Also, there is no owners manual for it so we don't know how to use the power meter, NAV or anything hybrid related. In fact, we don't know if the power meter works or how to pull up avg MPG. The damn NAV/info center is not user friendly I got to the maintenance screen but couldn't access any of the info..

Can someone point me to a online owner's manual until I can procure one?

I have read 5 pages of this forum and have already learned so much. I have also searched for the below topics but due to the lack of miles remaining until the powertrain warranty runs out, I beg your forgiveness and ask the probably redundant questions as I want to make sure I don't miss anything before Monday.

I am thinking of driving it straight to a Lexus Dealer before the 70K powertrain warranty runs out and have them do a service inspection. Are there any issues I should have addressed, looked at or complain about before the warranty runs out? The truck seems to run fine but I have no experience with hybrids and no manual to refer to.

We are buying ti from a Toyota dealer who is offer a Toyota Platinum - basically bumper to bumper for 5yr/60K for $4200 or the Gold for 5/60 $3000. Money is tight and we have had great success with our other Lexus' that make us feel that an extended warranty is probably a waste of money. Wife typically drives 11,700 miles a year. Again, money is tight and I have read so far (5 pages of forum topics) that few of you have actually had costly repairs to 135K. Thoughts?

Does the center console slide forward and back?

How can you tell if the truck has HIDs?

Thanks for indulging me.

Online owner's manual at Lexus.com
Yes console slides back and forth. There a handle just under the lid that's hard to find.

You should create an account on the Lexus Owner's web site with your VIN and check what service history is in the system at Lexus:

https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/home

Once there you can view the Owner's Manuals as well as order up a new one free of charge. Also, you can see if there are any outstanding recall issues with your vehicle.

As for the extended warranty, a number of owners here have contacted the following gentleman to get a quote. Does not make a difference which dealership you purchase it from. The vehicle just needs to be still under warranty.

Send him your location of purchase, VIN and current miles to get a quote.

Go to this site and register to get your manuals, you will need the vin etc...
https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...-lexus/home.do

Your next major maintenance will be the timing belt at 90k just like your RX300....

Default Service Items

So is there a check list of items that have probably of failure prior to 100K that need to be checked other than the items listed in the 75K service?

Assuming that the truck has had scheduled oil changes, I can't find much required service prior to the 90K service. And from about 14 pages of reading on the forum, it seems these things are pretty troublefree. I am seriously thinking about not getting any extended warranty.

Thoughts?

Hard to say if you'll need it or not. My inverter ($7000 plus labour) was replaced under the hybrid warranty so extended warranty wouldn't have helped, however, I needed the transaxle replaced ($5000 plus labour) and the extended warranty covered that. It also covered the headlamp washer pump (approximately $150 plus labour)

Default Dealer says.......

The dealer found the truck to be in good condition and suggests replacing the air filter and says the 12volt battery is low. I asked about recalibrating anything after replacing the battery and they just told me there is a procedure for the windows they will walk me through once I install a new one. Does this sound right?

Yes their is a procedure in your book also, which can be found online at my Lexus.com I believe Lexus will send you a manual if you call Lexus of America.... As for the battery buy a replacement at Sams Club, Walmart, or Costco and be good to go...It is the same battery that is used in Many Hondas.
