2008 Gs450h Rattle in Dash (TSIB # request)
Hello,
i have been reading a lot about the rattle in the dash, i bought the car used 2 weeks ago, didn't hear anything when i bought it, but i live in Montreal, (roads are like Beirut) and we are nearing the end of winter, i hear the squeak and rattle in the morning,
I have an appointment with the dealer wednesday, just to be prepared, does anyone have the exact TSIB numbers i can reference, so that they fix it once and for all before my warranty ends, and i wont be able to do it under warranty next winter.
i see a lot about the 2008 gs, but not much about the 2008
or i am of the Retard, and have not figured out this search mechanism yet

appointment for Wednesday
Just spoke to service manager,
they said they are familiar with this problem, and it doesn't need to be heard for them to fix it, regardless he said they would take apart the dash and insulate it correctly.
turn around time 5 hours.
i will post when i get it back how it turns out.

Re:
Thank you very much,
I subscribed to alldatadiy, didn't see this this one, but i will definitely bring this with me when i go tomorrow.
i am looking for somewhere i could buy or subscribe to that has more details than alldata,
P.S, this forum rocks!, comparing to the BMW forums i came from.

RE:Rattles
picked up the car this afternoon,
so far pretty good, just very little noises on very bumpy roads, but about 95% better, this could also be because it is a lot warmer today, but regardless, they removed my dash and felted it UP, i guess,
purchased floor mats while there will pick them up tomorrow, might still ask them to take another look, since it is still under warranty, and by the time next winter rolls around i might be off warranty.
if they don't or can't i will try to felt down the window trick, see how that goes.
but it is 95% better.
Down side, i got a HUGE stone chip through my 3m Clear bra when i picked it up! F&@#(*@#
i guess from the road test

executive matchup
i got the rattles too, but they are very intermittent and only in the morning when i drive to work. rattles go away by the time i get to the dealership, and the service advisor says they don't hear anything!

finally got it back, seems 100% rattle free, although it is warmer here. i could usually still hear something on the ridiculously bad roads by my place.
they also said they they put a note in my file, so that they will correct it in the winter if the noise returns.
pretty happy with the results.

Glad to hear you got your problem fixed. Toronto road conditions are bad too, but i think Montreal is worse. I had Lexus insulate the dash, and it removed most of the squeaking. But this winter, I got a very bad tapping sound from the windshield hitting something underneath the dash. Unfortunately i'm over the warranty mileage and they said it would be expensive to fix unless they pin point the clip that is causing it. Right now i have a micro fibre sunglass wiper shoved in there next to where the speaker and problem solved...unless i hit a pot hole or something.

RE: noises
I can tell you that even know my car is under warranty and they will fix any noise come the winter.
I have took it upon myself to correct a few of them.
my primary rattles are from the passenger side by the window, and i have a small rattle in each door handle, that comes with music with a lot of bass, and or small little bumps.
SO
things needed a 10 mm socket
felt sticker, i bought this from fabricville, sheets of felt with tape backing.
good sense of hearing.
to fix the rattle on the dash / window. i first removed the speaker cover and the speaker from the dash, once that was done there is a small clip that holds some wires to the side, i removed that clip, and wrapped those cables with some felt.
then if you jam your hand in the hole left from removing the speaker. you will feel the two vents passage tubs, all i did was fold a piece of felt, and slip it between the two tubes, to create a gap, so they would not rub together.
then i re assembled that entire area. (put the speaker back, and the cover)
Second and this is the exact source of my rattle ( nocking, clicking noise)
opened the hood, i removed my windshield wiper blades, and the complete cowling that is just under them,
there are some clips on that thing that hold it in place against the window, (slides over the window)
these clips are the primary culprit, all i did was cut some small strips of this felt tape, and wrap each clip to make them tighter, and if they were lose it would be felt tapping on the glass not plastic.
re assembled, drove around, now dead quiet,
I cant say it is 100% perfect until the winter, and if there is anything else i will let the stealer-ship take care of it, since i cant jam my hand in the speaker hole anymore.
but the 35-45 mins it took to do this resulted in a perfectly quiet car, and 100% better than anything the stealer-ship did to correct the issue with rattle / clicking noise from the passenger side window area.
and to fix the small rattle from the door handle, i popped off the small inside covers in the handles. and covered the back and the clips with felt tape, that rattle is 100% fixed,
End result, everything that rattles can be fixed with felt tape on the clips and or piece of interest.
now they only thing i have left to figure out is the annoying leather on the seat clips noise! (not so bad but it is right by my ear!!!!!) maybe some vaseline where the two meet, or something)
hope this helps anyone out there.!!
