toyota oil change
Any recommendations on having Toyota change the oil on my HS on a 33000 mile service? The closet Lexus is 1 1/2 hours from my home and Toyota is 15 min away. I figured since they are in the same family, it should be alright.

I'm not a certified Lexus mechanic, so take this with a grain of salt, but the HS250 has the same engine as the Camry hybrid (last gen). So I see no reason why it would use different oil or filter. A quick call to the dealer should suffice - I'm sure you're not the first Lexus owner to have your car serviced by Toyota.

I understand every Toyota Service Facility has all tech info on every Lexus and completely qualified to service them. They must because they sell them as used cars. My HS is serviced by Toyota exclusively. I just had it in yesterday. The only service they will not provide for me is any service covered under Lexus warranty. They may cover even warranty service if the car was purchased from a Toyota dealership. I have been told the Lexus brand is a popular trade in at Toyota dealerships.

That is amazing. Are you sure it was synthetic oil?
I got a 6 pack of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter and had to do it online at Amazon, and the cheapest I could find was $53. And that's changing it myself.

My HS service cost $46.39 total which included a synthetic oil change, filter and gasket, plus an inspection of tires tread depth, brakes, tire air pressure and a resetting of the maintenance light. Plus they did the Lexus multipoint inspection, all of which was documented in writing. I asked how they could do that for that price and make a profit. The answer - the inspection was listed as free by Lexus, which they honored, and the oil they carry is certified bulk oil. They pass on the savings to the customer. My Lexus dealership would have surely charged me hundreds of dollars. I have nothing against all Lexus dealerships - just mine! And I am particularly fortunate to have one of the best Toyota Service centers nearby. But Toyota is not necessarily cheap. The following day I took my old Highlander in for service and it cost me $518.00 (two oil leaks) ouch.
And, I am still not free of Lexus - there is another recall coming on the brakes. But I don't care it will give me a second chance to tell the Lexus service manager of the great service that Toyota (just a few blocks away) is providing and watch him try and muster a smile bigger than mine, because I can smile like the Cheshire Cat. But so can he - it must be a scary sight for an onlooker.
