GX may be gone soon...
Well unfortunately the brake pedal issue as noted in this forum has taken its toll on my wife and we may be selling or trading in our GX460. I love the truck and also notice how much more effort it is at stop lights to push the brake pedal in compared to our previous GX470 or any other car/truck we have had but it isn't a deal breaker for me. Unfortunately this is my wife's truck and it is starting to become a major nuisance to her in stop and go traffic. We looked at the Land Rover LR4 and Range Rover Sport today. We both liked the way the Sport drove but the LR4 is bigger and more practical for us and she actually likes the LR4 looks. They took us in the LR4 on their little rock climbing hill and I have to say I was impressed, this thing was a beast (I wonder how the GX would fare, this hill was ridiculously steep and felt like we were going to flip backwards and then sideways). There are definitely some features I would miss including cooled seats, perforated leather, and the nav screen is ridiculously small. I have to do some research but it looks like the gas mileage is horrible, 9-15 mpg, really? I complain that our 460 gas mileage is worse than our old 470 but this is terrible. The LR4 actually felt slower to me than the 460 although I'm sure it isn't considering it has 75 extra hp. The rear entertainment looks clunkier than the slim package of the 460 also. The plus is the suspension system seems better as the front and rear raises and lowers. It drove pretty nice and the cargo space is really good. After doing some research it looks like the LR4 is not too bad in the reliability department but I can say that my streak of owning Lexus' for 10 years and never having to leave a vehicle overnight would probably end. I love the GX, especially the sepia interior and dash layout. She loves it too and the only thing she doesn't like is the brake pedal pressure. I say suck it up but it is her truck. We'll see...

Don't do it. I have SO many colleagues who have Range Rover Sports and LR4's and have such terrible reliability problems. I know one woman who has a recent model Sport that she parks in her driveway with the keys in it hoping someone will steal it. I'm really not kidding...
Theres a Land Rover specialist down the road from my office too, and the lot is full of late model Range and Land Rovers, you see them come in on flatbeds....I love the way they look and drive too...but I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole...

I live in a small city. One day we had a bad snow storm, I counted 4 Range Rovers broken down waiting for a tow. Don't purchase a Range Rover or a BMW X5. I traded my BMW X5 for my GX 460. I have the same issue with the brake pedal, but I've gotten used to it. You might test drive an Infiniti QX 56. I would run from the Range Rover dealer. My BMW X5 was always in the dealers garage, not mine...

After test driving the LR4 I felt that the GX was more luxurious inside with the LR4 being more rugged looking, same with the exterior. The strange thing is she likes the more rugged ext/int and I like the more luxurious look. It seems most of the issues are electical in nature which are the most annoying to fix. I wonder if the LX has the brake pedal issue? If it didn't maybe I could get a used 2010 if it close to the price range of a new GX. As for the QX, I love the truck but cannot stand its looks.

despite the minor issues in the gx, we wouldnt get rid of it. we're used to brake pedal issues. driving in city though, you d be lucky to get 15 mpg in stop and go. it wont happen. highway is of course where it shines. 23+mpg in this once

I don't have a problem with the gas mileage other than wondering why my GX470 got better gas mileage. It just doesn't make sense to me. What I have a problem with is the LR4's gas mileage, it seems to be much worse. After doing a little more research it also looks like tires and brakes on the LR4 lasts around 20k miles and to replace are around $1,200 for each. I am used to my GX being able to get 48k miles on original tires and still having plenty of brake life left. In my old 470 and what I expect from the 460 is just oil changes, filters and brake fluid change within the first 4yrs/50k miles. I am looking at some used 2011 LX570's so maybe I can convince her to get one of those.

don't do it, but it's up to your wife. Well, I traded my 2011 GX for 2013 LX(needed even bigger car). so far no issues with braking or any other. Actually it is a lot better car than GX but of course more expensive.
Maybe wait for 2013 version to see if they fixed the problem?

Well after I did some research and talked to my wife I think she is a little turned off by some of the "issues" with the LR4 like brake/rotor and tire replacement around 20k miles, little electrical issues with the radio, cameras and rain sensing wipers, etc. My service advisor friend at Lexus has a friend that is a service advisor at LR which is on the same road as the Lexus dealer and even he kind of laughs at people that buy these trucks. He also texted me a picture of them working on a RR Sport, I was amazed at what they have to do to work on the engine and not what I wanted to see. She doesn't like the 2011 LX570 looks so we are keeping the GX for now and hopefully for another two years. Then maybe we can try out a lease on a LR4 (and just to try something new) or a 2013+ LX570 to make her happy which will allow me to buy the new Viper once all the hype dies down.
