My LS 460 with 4.6 engine is rated at 381 HP. This is a different engine than the LS...

For this much money and time taken between generations, every aspect of the truck should be class leading. Seriously, this is a "new engine" and should be class leading. It's like the 3.5 in the IS350 was class leading and blew the doors off the competition when it came out. BMW seemed to be caught with it's pants down and had to quickly turbo it's motor to compete.

Then there is my personal gripe between this Lexus and similar Toyota motor... I still don't understand how the Tundra engine can make more HP on regular gas than this Lexus tuned to run on premium. The 5.7 in the LX makes more HP than the one in the Toyota version. I know the old GX 4.7 made 263hp and the Tundra 4.7 made 270hp. Why is it just this mid leve V8 that Lexus can't make more HP on premium than it's Toyota counterpart on regular? Maybe if I drive one it won't feel underpowered.
^^^I agree.^^^

Personally, I believe that they may be lowballing the numbers. When I first drove the GX 460 (overseas) it seemed underpowered; however, upon driving a GX 470 and GX 460, I was a believer. The GX 460 feels faster, smoother and more refined.

The only way to get an idea on the HP/TQ is to dyno...who's going to be the first to go and do that?

Craig
Yeah like it was mentioned privously, it's a LS460 engine minus the direct fuel injection to reduce cost.

Not add direct fuel injection due to cost issue??? Give me a break

This is one of the reasons I went with Land Rover LR4. In addition to direct injection it has the V8 industry first dual independent variable camshaft phasing system to generate 375hp and 375lb-ft torque from just 5L. Oil change interval has been increased to 15000(!) miles, oil level checked electronically and displayed on the LCD screen. This is what I called a "cutting edge leading technology"

I am sorry but it feels like Lexus was obligated to update GX but didn't really want to so it try to cut on cost everyway possible.

Mercedes has had that for over 7 years. Nothing new. But agree, Lexus could do better with pushing the envelope.

Yeah I was only refering to the power, dual phase variable cams and 15K mile oil change interval being the class leading. Oil check is nothing new. In fact, my 19 year old 1991 Peugeot 405 Mi16 has that feature. It's not LCD but it can display the oil level on a mechanical gauge which then turns into a oil temprature gauge after engine starts. Neat feature.

Anyone know if the new GX displays the actual tire pressure readings now vs the idiot light which served a limited purpose?

The LS460 displays the tire pressure on the multi-display screen on the dash, so when I had the GX460 for a test drive, I checked all the multi-display functions and the tire pressure did not show there.

It may be hidden in one of the Nav menus, but I expected it to be on the multi-display.
