Fuzzy math? 2010 GX 460 price discovery......
#17
It seems that the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) is the ONLY difference that is exclusive to the GX 460 Premium, i.e., the only way to get AVS is to get a Premium.
To see this clearly, toggle the "Show only highlighted differences" check box at:
http://www.lexus.com/models/GX/detai...fications.html
So, we may be able to order a GX 460 base model and "option it up" with everything else, but there is no way to get AVS except in a GX 460 Premium. Although I disagree with those who find AVS to be useless or unreliable ... we used it daily in six LX's from 1996 until 2005 ... I do agree that it is unreasonable to order the GX 460 Premium JUST to get AVS.
We'll continue our search for a GX 460 base model with the right combination of options and forgo AVS ... we've learned to live without it since trading our last LX in 2005.

I just learned you can add the body side moldings to the base for $995. Does anyone know if that's the only way to tell the base from the premium from the outside?
Also, does anyone know how the stock dvd players compare to the after market ones (whatever it is my Lexus dealer is adding that's not the factory ones. . . .). They charge $2495 as compared to the entertainment package that's $2400.
I now have one "with my name on it" - been waiting since Dec. Yeah!!

Seems like if you've been waiting since December, they could have ordered one for you with exactly what you want on it.
The factory RSES has 2 monitors built into the back of the front seats, just behind the headrests. You can check with your dealer to find out how the after market system will be different.
What color is your interior?

Ecru. Seems like I talked to him mid december but only put the request in jan 8thish. He said if I ordered one it would take even longer. I'm in no rush. He said they would be installed in the back of the headrests and you can play each independently. Not sure if you can with factory. just don't want it to look like a hack job but for > $2K I assume it will be quality.

They should be able to match the ecru with the aftermarket headrests. I don't know if this is possible yet for the sepia.
I wonder if the active front headrests will cause any problems with the installation.
In the factory system, the DVD source is from the front DVD changer. Each rear monitor can select a different video source, but only one DVD. For example, you could have iPod video on one and DVD video on the other, but you cannot watch two separate DVD's unless you have an external DVD player connected to the rear A/V input jack.

Thanks! Super helpful. Now I have more questions to ask him about aftermarket product. Ohh, thought of something else. Can you ever watch a dvd in the front screen where nav is? I'm guessing with aftermarket you might lose that option? More questions to ask them. Sigh.

Well I've asked (via email) all the qs, including whether I get wireless headsets. For $2500 I should get all the bells and whistles, right! Crap, forgot to ask about the remote. . . .

The door side molding is the way to tell it is a base or premium, premium has chrome molding and the base don't

Yup. My base now has side moldings with the chrome and all. Looks exactly like a premium unless you take a magnifying glass to the headlight to see the mechanism that makes it turn. Hehe.
