Gas mileage with 2004 GX470 with tow package on 4000 lb. travel trailer
Does anyone know about what kind of mileage would we get towing 4000 lb travel trailer with 2004 GX470? We have taken out both third row seats and we will have only two people in this vehicle.

8-10 MPG probably .. if traveling at 65MPH or so. Maybe as high as 12 if the ground is flat and there's no wind. The slower you go the better.
I probably got 8-10 out of my GX when towing a 6'x12' enclosed trailer that didn't weigh very much.

Are you sure you were driving a GX470 when you managed 18 mpg? Usually the top mpg you will get is 17 mpg on the highway and that is with nothing in it. Were you going 40 mph the whole time?

I towed a 5x8 enclosed trailer with a 700lb motorcycle and fully loaded with luggage to Colorado and back (2000miles) and averaged about 14mpg on the flat and 10mpg in the mountains. I have gotten 20mpg avg with a slight tailwind. Keep the throttle body, MAF sensor and air filters clean. If your spark plugs are near their end new ones will help MPG also.

My mileage was accurate. I calculated this by knowing the tank was full and determining how many gallons I needed to add etc
I did average 18 mpg and my average speed was 45 to 50 mph straight line driving on cruise control. Left Philadelphia and drove to lake George ny.

Gas milage towing my tear drop 3500 lbs
I have a 2008 GX 470. I am towing a LITTLE GUY MAX tear drop travel trailer 3800 lbs roughly.
I was towing around IL to Michigan, mostly flat with mild grade incline at times.
I was doing around 75 mph, I got about 6.5 mpg
I dropped to 65 mph, I got 8 mpg ( I calculated it manually ) I also do not use premium fuel.
i was not interested in going any slower. It felt less safe when trucks are constantly passing you by at a faster speed. They still passed me, but at a slower rate.
when I am not towing I get around 18-20?
I am looking at a newer suv with a hybrid set up? I wonder how much better it can get. Like a Grand Highlander with a Hybridmax

When you're towing with a turbocharged vehicle, you're going to be on-boost pretty much all the time. Drinking down the gas...
The good news is that going downhill you won't be on boost so you'll be getting better mileage than the V8
