Default Navigation DVD Updates

Hello,

Does any body know how often we can update the Navigation DVD? Is there an alternative way to get the DVD beside getting gouch by the Lexus dealers?

Thanks!

You certainly do not have to go to the dealership to get the NAV updates!! One place you can go to is lexus-parts.com (http://www.lexus-parts.com/prodlist....bCategoryID=73 will take you to the NAV update page). You can easily install the update yourself. FYI since this post is on the GX470 thread I just want to let you know all GX470’s come with the latest version of NAV software, so no update is necessary. If you are thinking ahead to later this year when there is a new release, or for an older model Lexus, then this is your information. I hope this was helpful….

Thanks lexusnc! I have added the link in my Lexus contact list. I checked with the Bellevue of Lexus, WA dealer and they charge $425 for the DVD plus $45 (half and hour labor) to install it!

They also told me new release ususally comes out once a year around Decemeber.

WOW, what a rip off!!!! $45.00 to eject a DVD and put a new one in and $425.00 for the DVD!! Some of the older NAV systems actually used removable hard drived and I guess I could understand that, but really! I think the update run about $250 from lexus-parts.com, so it looks like you can save about 50% doing it yourself. Of cource if you have any trouble all you need to do is find a 7 year old to put the DVD in for you, LOL FYI not only do the updates include more map detail, they usually include firmware and software updates to the NAV system itself that auto install, so often times even if there is not much new map detail that is useful to you, the new software features are. I am happy to be of service.

Default Question about the navigation system

I purchased my GX 470 brand new in December of '04, 2005 model. Two of the main reasons I purchased the one I did was because it had navigation and bluetooth. I am driving to a lot of locations for my work and would use it a lot.

I have to say, neither system has ever worked well at all. Nobody can hear me on the bluetooth and the navigation system cannot find 75% of the locations I enter. These are not new area or new developments either.

I have taken it in several times and email corp. several times asking for advice/help. Nothing from corp, not even a response and at the dealer they always say "you need to buy the update". This puzzles me, as it didn't work from the get go???

I call the dealer on the bluetooth to schedule maintenance and they say they can't hear me. I simply say "neither can anyone else I try to call and I a yelling".

We went in to look at trading this one in and get a newer model. I asked if these systems work yet and they really did not answer the bluetooth question and as far as the navigation I get the "you need to update".

I decided not to buy another one, as I am really frustrated about these two systems.

Any advice out there???

Theresa

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat - my '03 still has the original disc.

BTW, don't bother with ebay on these. I bought one, thinking it was original, which turned out to be a copy. It worked when I loaded it, but not the next morning.

Fortunately, the seller was great about refunding the $$.

Bellevue of Lexus is a proud, proud dealership. Proud of their gear and have the prices to prove it IME.

Me too. I called Sewell and was told they are out of stock on earlier version. Same answers when I called the Seattle and surrounding dealers.

Please let me know if any of you know any good source for 1 year old version DVD Navi. Thanks!

Try the online site: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/clu...disc-dvds.html

It is reporting that they are in stock, for gen 4 at least.

If you hit info and then map disc (or something like that) you can get your disc's info. If you mean what generation nav system you have, gen 3 is before 2005, gen 4 is 2005-2006, and gen 5 is 2007 and after.

everyone should remember that Map disks are not transferable between Nav Generations. The 2005 Nav likely is Gen 4, and a disk from that will not work on a 2004 Gen 3 Nav.

People should check into buying the latest Nav disk for your particular Nav generation. For all Generation Nav systems (except for maybe the 2010 Gen 6 Nav on the new 2010 RX) the latest Nav Map disk is version 8.1.

Can someone confirm whether or not the new North American Gen 4 Update includes Hawaii?
