Power Steering Fluid Flush
Feedback welcome ....
2004 GX470, 78k....dealer advised that I get a power steering fluid flush...for the price of 180.00
Looking forward to all the great responses.
Trying to figure out if it a straight flush or a royal flush.

The only time I did a steering fluid change was if I replaced any mechanical component of steering system.
IMHO - a waste of time and money.

Hi! Purchased a 2004 SC430 with 84,000 miles a few weeks ago and I changed my engine oil, ATF and Power Steering Fluid (PSF) last week. My SC430 calls for DEXRON III PSF, so I used Valvoline MaxLife ATF (I used MaxLife in the tranny, too). It takes about 15 minutes to change the PSF from start to finish, as I already had the plastic splash pan off the bottom of the car. I wasn't going to change the PSF, but when I put a few drops from the dipstick onto a white cloth the PSF was brown (should have been pink to a dark red, so it was dirty. And, "dirt" will eventually abrade seals, causing one or more to leak. Thanks!

This service was just recommended to me as well but at a Toyota dealer and the price was $89! Much cheaper. Maybe corporate is running a monthly contest to see who can sell the most.
After getting this advice I searched here but did not find a DIY post. Anyone have a link?

In 40 years of driving, that is the only fluid I have never changed in any of my cars and have never had a failure. Every other change, oil, trans diff, coolant, brake, done religiously, but never that, go figure
