noise after start up
We are getting a strange noise on our 08 shortly after starting up (15 seconds maybe). I'd swear it sounds like the compressor for the rear end air height adjustment but it could be something in the exhaust I guess too. It's mainly my wife who drives the car so I'm not as familiar as I should be with it.
From reviewing this board it sounds like the rear height adjustment is the source of a lot of expensive repairs. Frankly to me it was a neat gimick but not of much real utility. It certainly wasn't a factor in the purchase decision. I hope they'll just delete it on the new model. I know if I have a problem with it out of warranty, I'd just disconnect it rather than paying up to fix it.
Anyway, any clues as to what the noise might eb would be appreciated. I did a quick search but couldn't find any information on it.

I agree on the rear suspension - for me, it's pretty much useless. When I put my 180 lb dog in the truck, it levels itself out, but doesn't move so much that you'd notice it if it didn't.
The one time I actually tried to use the feature was picking up my new boat a few weeks back. I hit the button and the system promptly died. Handy.
So, the one time I would have liked the truck to self-level, the system was broken. I towed the boat home anyway, and will probably never have to tow it again more than 1 mile.

It's the rear leveling suspension. It will also decompress when you shut the vehicle off. It actually is a beneficial feature if you are towing or if you have the back end of the truck loaded up. It keeps the back end of the GX from sagging under heavy load so that it can maintain vehicle weight distribution. Most premium luxury SUV's have this feature now.
