I actually ripped a MP3 itunes song to a CD and successfully got it to play in my CD player. This was a bit unreliable, however, and did not work everytime.

Yes this was a CD +/- R type disc; I cannot remember which. It played fantastic in my computer's CD/DVD drive and probably about 75% of the time in the 6-disc CD player in the glovebox.

Dr., you need to clarify.

From your computer onto a CD-R (or +R) you can either write a "data" disk with mp3 files (or any files)

or

you can create an audio CD, just like the ones you buy in the store.

You state you were using Itunes. If it was a song you PURCHASED from Itunes, and you "ripped" it to a CD, you were actually creating an audio CD. (Itunes does not let you rip their songs to mp3). But if you were just using Itunes, and it was a song you aquired from somewhere outside of the Itunes Music store, then you could have burned either an MP3 or and audio CD.

So you need to clarify, before we can answer the question if the CD changer supports mp3.

BTW, if your CD player supports mp3, in general it will cover that in the users manual.

By my best recollection, it was the first scenario you mentioned. It may not have been an itunes song.

MP3s and WMA files (the digital music files) will not play in the CD changer on the GX before the 2007 model. Ripped audio CDs will play (I just about never put original CDs in my changer - always a copy or a mix. That preserves the original from heat, cold, etc.). Some people have a problem playing certain brands of discs or using certain software, but I have not had this problem. I have the 2006 model.

I have also made AUDIO disks from MP3s and other formats (including Itunes). But they are still audio disks. Loflin is correct that currently Itunes does not let you make mp3s with music you buy directly from them.

Most CD players that play non-audio formats will list the other formats on the outside somewhere. My 07RX has wma and mp3 written on the outside near where you feed the discs.

Also, I can get about 130 good quality mp3s on a disk in digital format; I am lucky to get 19 or 20 songs on a disk in audio format. That's another way you can tell.

DVD players can usually play mp3s, but I don't have the RSES to know if that is a workaround.

thats what I was hoping to do. go from having 120 songs in 6 disks to 120 songs per disk. I wish there was a retro fit cd changer to do this.

I used the Ulead's Burn Now tool to create an Audio DVD with 99 songs on it. It plays through the ML DVD player in the center console, not the CD player in the glove box. It plays well, but there is no song/artist data.

http://www.ulead.com/bn/runme.htm

Burn Now is available as a trial piece of software. It is drag and drop , and pretty straight foward. No M4A or WMA support from the gui tool, but it gets the job done. I am sure I could work around that if I were motivated enough.

I had to use this post to copy over a required file that resolves an error that I encountered. http://tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571622. Support is limited for the trial version, but it met my needs. Hope this helps.

I have a 2009 Lexus GX470 with the CD/DVD changer in the glove box and it says DVD, WMA, MP3 on the face. I haven't tried it yet but I am assuming this unit will play MP3 or WMA burned as data to DVD media. Is that correct?
