Cannot Justify Extended Warranty!
I just purchased a used 2003 GX470 with 51,500 miles. The car currently has the factory warranty of 6 years 70K miles. We drive less than 10k miles per year. Warrantydirect wants $2249 for 37 months and 37,000 additional miles.
Since the powertrain is covered until 2009, would I have more than $2249 in repair cost of non powertrain coverage? I don't see this happening.
Anyone else know of a reputable warranty company? Lexus will not offer a bumper to bumper since it has more than 50k miles.
thanks,
lenny

I would try to get a warranty, here's why.................The newest TSB for the infamous driveline thump has 2 components to it. The first is the drive shaft assembly which is covered under the powertrain warranty. The second is the control arm kit which is NOT covered under the powertrain warranty but rather the 50K warranty. (I know this as I am looking at my printout from Lexus service) So if you decided to have this issue fixed it would cost you just over $700 because only half of the TSB is covered under warranty. You will be charged for the control arm kit and the labor to remove the old and install the new. Only issue is that you are outside of the factory bumper to bumper warranty and therefore will pay almost 30% more for the same warranty had you bought it with 2000 fewer miles on the truck.
