Dealer called with a price
Just wanted to get an idea if my dealer is giving me a "good" deal. He called and said he can get me the GX470, KDSS, rear spoiler, trailer hitch, RSES and every thing else (fully loaded) for $53,452. How does this number sound to the rest of you guys. I know deals vary from state to state and dealer to dealer so i jut wanted to get an idea if I am in the ballpark w/ a deceint price or if I should continue to get him to drop the price some more. He said once I am ready to place the order he can be more "aggressive" with the price. And being that I have to order the truck, it could take from 1-month to 4- months(worst case) to get. He also advised that the Lexus co. allocates 1-truck per month from the factory and the order could be epedited. Any and all coments are wanted and needed. Thanks

Not a very good price. Many dealers are doing $500-$1000 over invoice.
You can easily get invoice from edmunds.com or kbb.com. Note that Lexus also has a holdback (refund from mfgr to dealer after the sale) of 2% of the base MSRP.
As a rule, always work up from invoice, never down from list.

Invoice for the options that I wanted is $48,842 (fully loaded w/sports package, rear spoiler, trailer hitch, perfered package, 3rd row seat, nav, rses ect...) Their price was $53,452, thats a diff of $4,610 over invoice....not such a good deal. I will be sure to mention the print out from Edmunds. Thanks for the fire power.

Indeed- you can do better. Shoot for $500 over invoice (m)
and at most $1000. Are you trading in a vehicle? If no, I may have a few dealers to recommend. Send me a PM.

A heads up on "trailer hitch" -
Are you actually getting a trailer hitch installed, or is it "trailer prep?" The actual hitch is a few hundred dollars plus installation, and requires trailer prep built into the vehicle. The way I understand it, there are no factory hitches - they are either installed at the "port" (I believe the spoiler is also) or by the dealer.
Make sure you know exactly what you are getting before you sign the contract.
Good luck with the negotiation.

In case the dealer can't/won't go lower, if you're interested in an extended warranty or something additional, offer that as a package (car+warranty extension) on the table for negotiation. There's tons of markup in those extended warranties. Dealers are typically more willing to make deals at the end of the month. You could also try the fleet/internet manager here at Lexus of Tucson (the guy I bought from). I remember he sold a new car to a guy in PA over the web, so out-of-state is probably no problem. Keep in mind that dealers will more likely give you a good price if they think you're serious about buying from them. Last thing they want to do is quote a price (esp. over the web), then have you take it to a competitor for a price match. First, find out if they have the vehicle w/ the color/options you are looking for. Otherwise, you're comparing apples to oranges, and there's no sense on paying for stuff you don't want. If you don't want KDSS, it's a worthless option for you.
