Exclamation Dealer Says "Replace Head Unit" Any Ideas?

I'm away from home and decided to take my truck for an Oil change at a nearby dealer. I also told them to check the computer diagnostics since I went into the diagnostics mode using a method I found on the forum and my H/U said "check." While checking the car, they pulled error codes from the head unit and said that the entire Head unit needs replacing. They ordered a new head unit for me but I told them to cancel the order since I'm not driving 3 hrs back to that dealer for the install. I'm gonna go to the dealer by me this Monday and have them take a look and order it. It is still under warranty but I'm not sure what this entails.

Will they be upgrading my nav to the next Gen like 2005s or will they have and '04 head unit laying around to give me? If I get the 2005 head unit, will they add bluetooth? I'm a little uncomfortable since they are changing a large part of the car.

The following are the error codes if anyone can check them to tell me what is wrong, the tech didn't say:

From the service check mode, Audio H/U says "Chek". Clicking check pulls up the Unit Check mode under which Memory 61-40 occurred at 05/07/02 15:24:25. This error was repeated 6 more times within 2 minutes. Does anyone know what this means?

From LAN Monitor, the EMV has error code

01-D5 190-4E-F
01-D5 1F4-4E-F
01-D5 280-4E-F
01-D5 178-4E-F
01-D8 178-27-1
01-D8 1F4-27-1
01-D8 280-27-1
01-D8 190-27-1
01-D8 1C6-3C-2
01-DC 1C6-48-C

From LAN Monitor, the DSP-AMP pulls the codes:

01-D6 -05-3
01-DC 110-CE-6
01-DC 1FF-2F-1
01-DD 110-60-E
01-E1 110-60-6
01-E3 -60-B

Everything else is "OK" or "NoErr".

If anyone can help me, thank you so much.

Question

I haven't had or heard of this problem, so I won't be of any help to you.
But was the system working fine, radio and nav?
Everything is under warranty within the time period, so no worry. Most likely they're going to replace with an 04 since it's still fairly new.

REgarding new unit, I think Bluetooth is built in. MOst likely they're not going to give you the 05 b/c I think they will have to order you a microphone also, more retrofitting..........I think.

Otherwise

There is a P# on your head unit. When they order a new one you get the EXACT SAME head unit and P#. I work in parts, thats how they do it.

Yes, Gen4 comes with a bit more hardware than just the head unit. For that reason, Lexus will keep many in stock until warranty expires (perhaps 2008-09), than they'll probably have them special ordered thereafter where the cost will lie with the customer.

Actually you are incorrect. Lexus dealers do not stock head units because they are Vin number, serial number and P number specific. Everytime a head unit is needed, it is special ordered because lexus does not allow the dealerships to stock any.

looknow12 did NOT mean (or say) Lexus dealers will stock, he said Lexus.

The point is, manufacturers stock service parts for the project life. You will not get "free" upgrades to newer versions with new functions. There are many issues with this, first is compatibility, second is documentation (they are not going to re-write the owners manual just for you), finally they would not want to encourage a rash of "warranty failures" from people wanting to get new functions.

I did mistake what he said..however you are wrong as well ...When the 98-00 cars came out with the hard drive Navigation system Lexus upgraded their systems with free updates because people were upset. Lexus has a tendency to do whatever it takes for customer service scores. Although, you are correct in stating that they stock a lot of parts for the life of the vehicle...and it does not end just because the "new car sales" end for that particular vehicle...Point being, they make changes to keep people happy even though its not the "norm".

Ummm, no I am not wrong. What I stated is correct. The fact that occasionally because of a gross problem, quality manufacturers will make things right, doesn't change the fact.

People can hope and wish they will pick up BT capability (or something) by installing the a later version of a part, just doesn't happen that way, from the manufacturer. After-market, is a different story.

My main point was to let people (who may not be aware, if they do not work in the development and manufacturing area) is that companies stock service parts for the projected service life.
