Buying 2003 GX 470 in 48 hours. . suggestions.
What up everybody. I'm a new member that will be purchasing a 2003 GX470 w/ 119k miles in 48 hours. . . It's had the timing belt (and waterpump) done, the dash recently replaced, clean carfax and routine services. I have not seen it in person yet, but from pictures this is what I know it has/needs; corrosion on wheels, needs tires, (gonna pickup used 4runner tires/wheels for cheap), and the clear coat is starting to peel on at least one fender. Things I know to look for specific to the GX are; drive train clunk, leaking transfer case, warped rotors, stuck or otherwise non working rear suspension. (will eventually replace with coils anyway), and rusty undercarriage, though it's lived in sunny florida except for it's first year after being built. I've agreed to pick it up for $8800 from a private seller contingent on visual inspection (no dealer/wholesaler b.s.). Is there anything else specific to these vehicles I should keep my eyes peeled for? Thanks for your replies.

Ask about transmission service history. These trucks were sold new as "never needs trans service". But the fluid should be changed to keep them going. To help with Trans history look for a tow hitch. If it has it ask about what its been towing. Also keep an eye open when you go to look at it for some 30' boat on a massive trailer but no 1ton pick up around. They all come with full 7 pin trailer plugs from the factory so even if there is not a hitch the trailer plug is tucked up under the back.

Check the Airbags and make sure it actuates up and down on command.
Just be aware if you don't know the history on the brakes, the calipers freeze up on these regularly.
Get the VIN and go to Lexus customer care on the website and download the service records if you have not done that yet. Definitely check for the tow hitch and look around for any signs it was a tow rig. $8800 is a pretty good price for that with the mileage. Test out the low range and lock the center dif to test as well. Do a few moderately aggressive stops in it and see if it ducks to one side or another, and check for shimmy in the steering wheel. These can be indicators of shot bearings. Just know that you are the one in command of this deal, you can walk away if it doesnt feel right.
