Default Lexus Key Code inquiry

Hello!
I'm new to the Lexus fan club. My wife has purchased a 2004 GX470. However she has lost the only key fob we have and are down to just the valet key. I called a locksmith to see if he could cut and program a replacement key, he said he could, I just needed to get the key code for her car. So I called the dealership and they tell me they can see the key code and I can only get the key ordered and programed from them. I find this hard to believe, and don't want to pay $210 for a replacement key and $140 for programming. Any help here would be great.
Anybody know how I can get the key code for my wife's vehicle?
Thanks!

All you need is the VIN for your vechicle. Your lock smith should be able to provide a working key
however in order to program the chip I think you need a working master key or you may need a techstream device to read your code . Ask your locksmith about that
