Bilstein 5100s in 2004 GX470 suspension swap
Air bags are going and all shocks were leaking. Too many other $$$ projects right now so I am trying to keep costs down and get my best bang for the buck. Trying to keep close to stock or 1" lift.
Installed Bilstein 5100's in rear (part# 33-187174) and waiting for new 2007 FJ Cruiser rear stock coil springs from dealer. I am planning on putting Firestone air bag helpers inside the rear coils for heavy loads and towing. Not sure how much help the upper spring seat sub assembly will be once I cut most of it away to fit the Firestone air bags. I was thinking about an aftermarket coil spring insulator(something like this.. ) Maybe save $125 on the spring seats and put it into the Metal Tech diy kit and console box hole cover.
Does anyone know the replacement bump stop to swap out the longer stock GX ones ?
I am also planning on replacing the front leaking shocks with the Bilstein 5100's but I need the actual part # that would work with my stock GX front springs. My concern was the aftermarket coil overs are pretty expensive. I am sure I may regret not going all in but I really don't plan on keeping the GX forever. If I could get a reasonable front coil over setup I would consider the costs but I will probably try the 5100's with the GX stock front springs.
There is so much great info on all these forums but quite honestly I have analysis paralysis. What I do know is that I want to get this done.
