Default delayed start from stop

My mom's 2005 GX470 with only 72k miles took a turn for the worse yesterday. When stopped in drive, letting up on the break and applying gas doesn't get the car rolling as usual. There's a delay of 15 seconds or so and then it gets going. After it gets going up-shift is fine. Sometimes down-shift has a kick/thump. It's all fine in reverse.

Has anybody experienced this?
Is the transmission gone?
Any idea what it will cost to fix?

I would check for transmission fluid leaks and replace/flush the tranny fluid. Hopefully that would take care of this issue.

Agreed. Check the fluid levels & condition.
Since Lexus made the transmission a sealed unit, there's no dip-stick. You (or a mechanic) will have to get under the vehicle and remove the fill plug to check.

mechanic checked the fluid level and I think replaced it. No joy. Same issue still there. This is so sad. only 72k miles. I loved this car. It was a surprise gift for my mom from my dad. I picked it up from the dealer. Still remember that day. We had to hide the car for a week to present it at her birthday.

Check with your local parts yards on a used transmission (did your mechanic not evaluate the problem??)

I'm seeing a price of $2400. Not sure if that is a remanufactured, a rebuilt, or if that includes the $1000 core refund (which you may/may-not get depending on whether yours is rebuildable).

If you really want to keep the truck, try this :
- change engine filter
- change spark plugs to Denso IK20 iridium power
-clean mass air flow sensor
- grease the entire driveshaft
- change front, rear axles differential fluid and transfercase fluid
- clean throttle body and air intake valve
Specially you gotta check both front calipers . Sticking calipers make the discs warpped and make the truck run unsmooth. Hope this help buddy !
