Default Tire questions ...

I've had AWD cars and SUVs before and had to change all four tires at the same time.

I want to swtich over to Nitto Terra Grapplers on the stock 17" wheels and had some questions:

1. Do I have to change all 4 at once or can I do an axle at a time ?

2. Can I go 275/65-17 without rubbing ?

Thanks from a 4WD noob

1. Ideally you'd want to keep the rolling diameter of all 4 tires the same so yes you should replace all at once. But again, I've never heard of anyone's drivetrain exploded because the front and rear tires aren't the same diameter due to newer vs older tires.

2. Haven't seen 275/65 but I have seen 265/70 with no issues.

If you only do one pair at a time, you will never have the same tread depth and traction on all four corners which may slightly affect your AWD/4WD performance. Definitely don't do mismatched sizes. Different diameters may cause problems with the center differential and it could get a little hot as it has to accommodate different front and rear drive shaft speeds. It could also confuse your traction control ECU.
