Default Lexus Platinum Wtty. Out of Factory

Why is it that one Lexus dealership will sell you an extended "Lexus" warranty after a car is out if it's factory warranty specs (4 yr,/50K mi.) and another says you can't. I have that situation where one dealership is offering to sell me one (4 yr, 50K mi.) on an '07 GX 470 with 74,000 mi. and another Lexus dealership saying "they can't do that". Any clues here?

I imagine that it will only be honored at that specific dealer. Hence, the quotations around "Lexus" are appropriate.

You dont need an extended warranty BUT if you buy it from Lexus make sure you get everything in writing. Once the factory warranty have expired you can not buy a factory extended warranty. Theyre probably selling you an aftermarket warranty. Like I said, make sure you get everything in writing but I would save my money if I were you.

Be careful here. It could get confusing very quick if your salesperson is not very knowledgeable. Lexus does not sell extended warranty on a vehicle that is out of original factory warranty. What your dealer is selling you is a VSA (Vehicle Service Agreement) since your GX is out of factory warranty. Factory warranty is meant to keep you very happy with your purchase. Every little squeeks and rattles is covered. VSA protects you from part "failure" to help you sleep better at night. VSA is only available at point of sale from the dealer. Prices vary from dealer to dealer...price is negotiable. I bought my VSA, but I am dumping it for refund.

There's a difference between extended factory warranty and VSA, so make sure you're clear before you sign.

Ditto, to the above. Ask to see that warranty paperwork. A lexus extended warranty will say Lexus at the top, from Toyota manufacturing. My full platium warranty covers everything, except belts, hoses, brakes, battery, etc. If the truck has been regularly serviced, a major component failure is unlikely. No warranty, that I know of, is going to cover the $1000.00 coming up at 90 to 100,000 miles. Water pump, timing belt, etc.

If they did a full inspection of that vehicle, ask to see that documentation. It will show things like, rotor wear/thickness, brake pad thickness, etc. No warranty is going to cover rotor replacement and pads.
