European cars (Volvo, SAAB, VW, Audi and even some Asian cars sold in Europe) have nylon cargo safety nets available to prevent loads and luggage from being thrown forward into the passenger compartment in the event of heavy braking, or god forbid in a crash.

i have not seen that kind of netting, but you could use this dog barrier:

mine also came with a small cargo net for the rear that you could throw, small, loose items in.

I just found that an Australian company called Milford Industries has both universal safety nets and a rigid cargo barrier.

Cargo Barrier, price ~$500 USD.

I think there is a distributor in CA. Shipping for the barrier is a hog as it is very heavy. I think the safety net will be cheaper to ship as it is much lighter.
