Buying 2005 GX470 Any Idea?
I am planning to buy 2005 GX470 with 67000 miles.
This is my first Lexus. Just wondering how reliable this car would be.
I am thinking if I buy new Highlander 4 cyl or try 2005 GX470 for luxury class.
I will appreciate you guys' thought and recommendation.
This is for my family!
Thanks,
Kevin

Two completely different vehicles...
With regards to the GX though, it's a solid, big SUV w/ luxury appointments. Doesn't sip but rather drinks gas but very comfortable vehicle w/ full frame construction. Good off-road, capable in snow, smooth on the hwy, can pull well more than you'll ever need to (if being compared to Highlander).
Don't think you can go wrong w/ either as long as they match your needs. You'll be pleasantly surprised w/ the GX if it's what you need.

Apples and Oranges. i would take a used Lexus over a new Toyota any day especially when your talking about a full size Lexus SUV. Lexus 4.7 V8 was probably the best V8 ever made, there are LS470's(same engine as GX470) still on the road with 350k miles. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Everything is great with my '05 gx. Only had 2 problems after 81k miles:
1. the "thump" (fix per warranty)
2. leaky radiator at only 78k miles, known issue with gx (replaced myself thanks to people from this forum )
My minor issues:
1. not enough leg room in 3rd row (comfortable for 5'2" and under, works
best for kids)
2. getting ~16 mpg with half city and half highway (knew about low gas
mileage before buying)
My wife and I love our gx. She wants another one in the future.
One great thing about getting the new highlander is that it is still under warranty.

Kevin,
Hope you have made your purchase by now. You will not regret it for a moment. I have an 07, Blizzard Pearl, and it drives and rides like a dream. More comfortable than most cars I have owned. Gas mileage is definitely a con, but the ride and safety features are outstanding. Good luck.

We bought a 05 last year with 65K. As of today it has close to 75K and has been ultra reliable. Needs nothing so far but a few oil changes.
It is my wifes kid taxi and she feels very safe driving her and the kids around. To be honest, I am thinking of selling my GS and buying one for myself. Just wonder how odd it would be to have 2 GX's in the garage!

For example, there is a guy on CL selling a 03, loaded with navi and factory dvd, asking $18K. Now it has around 110K highway BUT, the 90K service (timing belt) was done along with every Lexus service by the book. The truck is a one owner, garage kept and even though I did not see it as I am not 100% ready to pull the trigger on another GX, the pictures looked like it was new. I believe after driving the wifes that the thing will run 250K easy.
Anyway, we wil see if their are 2 GX's in the garage. I do like the LR3's but the operating cost are HIGH!!
