I may order a new 2009 GX
I think I may give myself a 50th birthday present in december because I am deeply depressed about turning 50 when I feel like I am still 25
So I may order a new 2009 GX470 to ease the pain....
(plus i wanna get a new one before they make the big change)
I know it's been discussed before and I realize each person's needs vary but are there any options that you wished you had got and will next time?
I live in Texas and do almost all street and highway. (no off-road)
What differences will I notice from my 2004 to a 2009?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

The GX is a dual purpose vehicle...it is good on and off-road. If you have not intention of using it off-road, then why not get something that is intended for on-road only?? Any of the vehicle listed above would blow the doors off the GX on-road.
As for options, spending $$ on KDSS (or Sport pkg) is pretty much a waste of money IMHO for your needs. Yeah, it provides slightly better handling, but KDSS is really an off-road tool.
NOW, if you really want to enjoy your GX, then you need to use it as a dual purpose vehicle. Take a car trip to Big Bend. Take a trip to Colorado or Utah. Trust me, you will even love your GX even more after those trips!
Otherwise, i would either stick with what you have OR upgrade/change to something that suits your needs better.
Hope this helps.

To answer some of the questions:
I want a new GX470 because it would be "new" as in zero miles and a new warranty vs one with lots of miles, dings, scratches, leather seat wear, stains, and normal wear and tear that are on a 4.5 year old vehicle.
I want a GX470 for street use just like probably the vast majority of GX470 owners. I would think most people that own a Lexus GX470 are not exactly "mudders". The overwhelming majority of all GX470 miles are pavement miles. So it's not like I am some kind of oddity.
Like me many GX owners just love the look, the feel, the size, and the quality of the Lexus GX470.
As for keeping mine and getting an additional car. I don't want or need two vehicles. Sure every once in while it would be nice to jump in a sporty car, but I'm not going to buy something that would sit 85% of the time.
I guess I just love the GX470 for my own reasons.
2EachHisOwn, but thanks for input.

Hey, I think I can answer some of your questions, as I work at a dealership.
There will be very little difference from 2004 to 2009. It will be mostly in the Nav system, and back-up camera. It's much, much better on the newer models.
As far as packages and options, in the Texas region, you can expect to find about 3 different packages.
1) No Nav/ML, no Bluetooth, no DVD, pretty basic SUV.
2) Nav / Lev will be the most common.
3) Nav / Lev with Rear Entertainment and Lexus Link.
That's the way it breaks down in our region, mostly.
Hope that helps!

Look for a leftover, new 08! Below invoice!
Don't know what changes they made from 08 to 09, but the 08 has seen a few cosmetic updates from 07. You proabably already know that in 07, they added iPod / aux port. And in 05, they added more output to the 4.7L V8.
Edit: "The Lexus GX 470 receives no significant changes for 2009."

Happy shopping! Consider an IS-F or the GS450h / GS460!

TiDMD99 IS RIGHT! THIS CAR IS ENJOYABLE WHEN OFF THE ROAD.
Take it offroad. Its lots of fun. You will come back home with a smile, and perhaps respect your car a little more. I'v done it! The feeling is awesome.
Or if you won't go offroad, than get an X5 or something european that you can feel when your behind the wheel.
If you have not driven a BMW before I suggest you go for a little test drive. It wont hurt!
