Default ipod?

I am currently in the market to buy a GX. If I knew there would be an ipod input for the '06 models I would wait for the '06. does anyone know if the input is expected in '06 or if there is an easy way to install it in the aux. input in the '05 models?

Vais Technology makes a great solution that integrates very nicely with GX470's that have the nav package. Here is a link to an older thread that discusses the Vais Tech AIC-100i product.

My installation experience for this product is at:

Daryl,
The Vais website mentions that you'll only see the iPod track info on the screen if your radio supports CD-Text. I have an '04 GX with the ML/NAV pkg. I'm pretty sure I don't have the CD-Text support. Without being able to see the info on-screen, that really limits the utility for me. Can you tell me how the VAIS/iPod interface is on yours?

Also, I am absolutely the LAST person who should be DIY'ing this project. Would Lexus service install this or should I try to find a decent car installation shop?

jacksonian, I had an 05 GX and it supported ct-text, so my guess is the 04 would be the same...

I am not a DIY, but darylhuff's installation guide is fantastic and it only took me about 20 minutes each to install and uninstall it. The high quality Lexus parts/panels snap off very easily and go back on just like they came from the factory, no worries about any squeaks or rattles...

Mine is an 05 GX. I have a picture on my installation page showing what the Nav interface looks like when it is playing the iPod. It does pick up the ID3 tags from songs and displays the song name.

I don't know if the 04 GXes have the ability to display this information. I do know that the Nav system in the 05 was upgraded with a new generation system.
