Removing footrest

Removing footrest
Anyone know how to remove the left side driver's footrest? It gets in the way of where my foot wants to be and causes my knee to ride the door. Has anyone removed it? and what if anything is underneath it?
Thanks in advance

Ya know it's weird you would say that because I have only had my new GX470 for about 2 months and I just noticed this weekend that my driver's side left foot rest is already all scuffed up.
It does seem a bit in the way, but I wonder if it might look funny to remove it?
Keep me posted on what you do.
Thanks.

If it's like the 4runner.. I believe you can just wiggle it off. I think it uses plastic clips to lock in. Just try lifting the bottom edge with your hand. I think you will see some give.

footrest does pull straight up
I like the additional legroom. Currently looking for a replacement flat footrest to cover the cut out in the carpet. I don't know what I'm going to put there yet, though.

wow what a relief getting that darn thing out of the way! Thanks for the idea!
There are 3 plastic clips/bolts holding it in. It is on there very tightly. I had to use a butter knife from the very bottom of the plastic and push it all the way under and in and then lift up really hard. It popped off and I thought it was going to break but it is just fine. It takes a good beating, nothing will happen to it.....
I don't know what to do with all that room down there now. I wish the gas pedal was a little farther away now....
