I used this link for instructions on how to get my alternator out. Well written instructions as it took about 40 minutes to get it out. I just replaced the contact ring/brushes as I knew they were getting worn down. This is original Alternator on 2007 GS350 with 102k on it. Total job took 1.5 hours. I had the face plate with the bearing pressed in, but opted not to do it since original was in fine shape.

One thing I found different was on the actual removal where he rotates the Alternator 90 degress, I just took it out to the left and up instead of messing with the ac line. It came right out between ac line and radiator hose. The brush assembly is so easy to replace on this alternator, just 2 screws and nothing else has to come out to get to it.

This DIY helped me out quite a bit, so kudos to you. One thing I did notice that was different for me, and was a PAIN, was the nut behind the alternator. Mine was 12mm (2007 GS350) and not 10mm. Due to lack of sight and hand room, it took me a second to realize this.

Guys I just replaced my alternator on my 2007 GS 350 and the nut was also 12mm. I used the write up as well and it was very useful. i did NOT remove or touch any part of the ECU. There was enough room to remove the alternator.

The only problem i encountered was the alternator being very tight and wiggling it out took some doing. I used a bit of WD 40. I also used a mallet and a wooden pole to first move it clockwise towards the driver side fender. I was then able to move the backend of alternator closest to the engine slightly forward and that caused it to come loose enough to be able to wiggle it out of its bay.

I was very cautious and it took me about 3hrs, but putting it back in was a 20mins job. Chances are your battery is going to be dead so take it to autozone for a free charge that takes an hour and be ready to go when you put everything back together.

A quick question......I have a 2007 GS350 AWD. In most of the threads it says that you have to remove the AC compressor. Does that mean simply removing the bolts on the AC compressor and moving it out of the way or are we talking total removal of the compressor. Any other way around it without tearing out the whole compressor. Thanks

You do not have to remove it. You can work around it and get the alternator out. The worst part for me was getting that bolt out that mounts the alternator to the block.
