06 gs300 awd oil filter housing question
Hi,
My apologies if this has already been addressed but I just bought an 06 gs300 awd with the 3.0L v6 and the quick drain bolt on the oil filter housing is seized in place. The 2wd version of this vehicle has an oil filter housing design which omits the quick drain bolt.
Question: Can I replace my Awd oil filter housing with the 2wd oil filter housing that has no quick drain bolt (both housings are the same lexus part # and use the same filter)?
Thank you in advance

I have an 09' RWD so mine does not have the "quick drain bolt" that you do. However, from reading through the "DIY oil change thread" on this site....I seem to recall a member saying his was stuck too...and he simply removed the bottom half of the filter housing to drain the filter housing and to replace the actual filter. Pretty sure you can do the same. That drain bolt on your filter housing is only there to drain a small amount of fluid prior to removing the filter....it's not the oil pan drain bolt. You should be able to just remove the half of the filter housing that contains the "quick drain plug" you have seized.
if I'm not correct on this....someone will let us both know, lol

My concern was that if the small O ring breaks will the oil leak out (because its seized on I know it hasn't been changed). Lexus said as long as the quick drain nut is on there and it's not leaking to just leave it. I've been changing the oil by removing the entire canister and see no need for the quickdrain. Which is why I want to use the Rwd version canister which doesnt have the quickdrain.
My question is does anyone know if I can swap out my Awd oil filter canister for a Rwd oil filter canister?
