06 GS300 Wont start, brand new starter
Took 06 GS300 to dealership for no start. They say it might be the starter and replaced it, and it wasn't the starter. Cost over $800 for nothing. Frustrated, i pulled it from the dealership, took it to a mechanic i have a little faith in. He was unsuccessful. He mentioned that he was able to get it to start briefly, but quickly died. I guess he bypassed alot of electrical stuff. Everything seems fine, until I press the ignition and get nothing. No warnings, nothing. One thing to note, I had a problem keeping the negative battery terminal on. After a great deal of use, it would slightly slip off the battery, so i would have a dead car. I would just tighten and drive on, then it would slip again. I say cause I think maybe something got zapped. Any help would be appreciated.

It's unacceptable for the dealership to hand you a $800 diagnosis that was wrong and then simply let you walk away from them without a proper diagnosis. After the $800 expenditure on their wild guess, I would go back and talk to the management because I would feel that they owe you a proper diagnosis.

Wow that's crazy! You should've been able to let them diag the car properly even after they put a starter in it. Im sure they would've made it right. But it almost sounds like the ignition switch or starter button is gone bad. I work at a Jag dealer and we replace start buttons all the time for no start problems. Well good luck!

Hell no...id be back at that dealer either getting it fixed and diagnosed for free or I'd be there with my attorney getting a full refund. That's unacceptable...they should hhave trouble shot the entire electrical system first. Now you have either a 12month/12k or 36month/36k warranty...(can't remember) for the same issue....seems like this one is on them for the same issues...

Most of the time I ask for the old part to be given to me whenever I have somebody else do the work replacing it. It is your property, after all... sometimes it is just to disassemble out of curiosity, sometimes it's because it may still prove useful in the future.
Though I would wonder if they diagnose a bad starter, and you ask for the old part, if they would sabotage it before giving it back to you to make sure you have a bad starter... nothing would surprise me any more.

My 2007 GS with 133k is at the dealership now for a similar problem. I can't get any power to turn on when I press the start button. The battery (6 months old) and the alternator (2 months old) test good. My dealership suspects the Main Relay... It's supposely a $550 bill, so far. I can keep y'all posted.
