The link above is for a clunk when coming to a stop. Crazy issues lol
Mine was a definite slip in first gear light throttle, then a hard thud/bang as it shifted to second. Wasnt software in this case, something in the trans.
After the buyer had the trans replaced with a 87k junk yard, the trans is now perfect. But after I got the car back, the second day, the heater did not blow cold again.
It took a litre and a half of coolant to top it off. On my way back over to that shop for a pressure test- when it was in the shop he said he couldnt find a leak. But over a litre is enough to show up quickly I would think. I dont think its getting into a cylinder because it runs well

You need to have a hydrocarbon test performed. All that coolant is going somewhere. In the 6 yrs ive had my GS ive only had to add about 6 ozs to the reservoir. You have a massive loss somewhere...

You might not have overheated the engine but depending how low the coolant was the transmission could have seen higher oil temps and with over 100k on the factory fill it could have just been enough to break it down. I would also have the pan dropped to see if you possibly have a clogged filter screen. Good luck!

I also think someone on here had an 06 GS300 and they said they replaced the filter.

I saw a DIY write-up on the RX and it didn't look to bad. I guess these GS trans are quite different.

Someone within the 3rd gen forum did a transmission fluid change and posted an entire DIY with pics and a step by step detail. From how to drain the fluid to changing the filter/seals/ etc. Really good write-up, and if you are handy then it should serve you well.

you sure about the "changing the filter" part?? Ive seen the DIY but no where here have i seen a DIY on replacing the filter for these 3rd gen GS's. If i missed it....would love a link. thanks

Alchemist did the DIY and no filter was involved. If you change your fluid regularly, you should never have to worry about the filter. My GS300 has over 150k on it and pan has never been dropped. Shifts as tight as when it was new.

As for your GS300...at what mileage intervals have you been changing out the fluid??

On the Gs300, I do it every 45k via the tranny cooler lines. I do the complete fluid replacement. On my Gs350 I did the complete fluid replacement by doing 3 at a time through the drain bolt and then doing the top off procedure. It had 82k on it when I did that. Car now is at 101k and the tranny is tight like it always has been.I will be doing the GS350 every 60k going forward.
