Default Parking Assist- Install question

My car was a Premium package with Navigation but NO ML & NO parking sensors/assist.

I noticed a few years back while changing my fog bulbs that there was an extra open-ended wire harness and figured that it likely is for optional parking sensors.

My question is.. could I buy an OEM ECU and sensors from Lexus and install it so that it works with my factory headunit and instrument cluster?

I have googled and checked club lexus and many of the threads on this subject go unanswered.

thanks in advance.

If behind your bumper you have a plug for it, I feel like if you buy the harness with sensors and a bumper that has the cutouts for it, you should be fine. This is not confirmed, but if they wen't as far as doing the wiring, I think you should be good to go. Now I would suggest going to a junkyard and picking it up, cheaper just incase it won't work.

Hmmm okay. So what if you go home and got it install in a professional bodyshop having to tell you that the part you got is defective? If you're gonna go the whole 9 yards to complete this project, then prepare to spend money at the dealer to buy new parts and get it done right. Very RARE to find a wrecked GS, and even if you have found one, im sure the sensors were crushed from an accident.

As far as the OP, yes you can buy the sensors/harness and have a professional bodyshop do it for you... I've seen a number of shops do the cut outs on it on aftermarket bodykits for our cars (like DTM Autobody) or the easy but expensive way is have Lexus do it for you while you relax in the lounge munching on complimentary snacks & beverages.

I can do the labor myself. I am just asking if it would be plug and play to work with my factory center console LCD and cluster.

As for expenses. I have a good friend that works for lexus parts department and gives me his great pricing on parts, i supply his lunch. So price isn't too much of a worry. And I like to consider myself a very good DIYer and don't like anyone else touching my cars

I just need to be assured before I bite the bullet and purchase all these things and come to find out it doesn't work with my navigation LCD

Since you have a friend that works for Lexus have him check the part numbers for your car against one that has park assist...if the Brain and harness come back with the same part # then you can proceed...if not...well...then you have a decision to make.
