For my 08 gs350 it turned out to be the ballast. I paid 350 for a new one from dealer and installed it myself. Its takes a couple hours.

My 09s headlights were doing this and it was the bulbs. I replaced them and its been fine since. They have a lifespan of 5-7 years.

sounds like it was a connection issue, I will try this on mine, Does anyone know if dielectric grease can be applied to the connection?

My car was doing the exact same thing... I changed to new bulbs and the problem is now gone heres the link to my DIY I hope its not to confusing.... My grammar is horrid 07 GS350 AWD

edit: sorry for not reading ahead... It could have probably been that the connectors were loose or something since you swapped the bulbs... But that is very strange tho.... maybe I should have swapped the bulbs xD but i could see that the blue lining on my old bulbs was black and the new ones were blue... so wasn't sure if that meant theyre done.... plus had the car for about 8 years

i had the same issue. i did some diagnosis to determine what was going on and i realized the positive pin in the new bulbs i put in where a tad bit smaller. I double checked with a micrometer and i figure it mustve been the cause for it shutting off.

what i did was i had a curved metal pick and pulled the pins located inside the rubber portion of the plug gently closer together to ensure contact. i also wanted to make sure ground wasn't the issue so i pulled that metal tab located where the headlight socket is closer towards the center of the socket to unsure the plug made contact with the grounding tab.

the end was the headlight only went out once and then after i flicked it back off and on it never happened again. i did this about 2 months ago. i wasn't sure if what i did fixed the problem but it seemed to have worked.

do not take this as the solution to this issue because it may very well not be the problem, it still could be the ballast. this just worked for me LOL

Same thing happened to me before. I bought aftermarket bulbs and it started to do it again. So i bought factory bulbs and it never happened again.
