Rear Brake Caliper Pin Stuck
Ok guys, I've been through hell with doing the service on this caliper so take it from me, this might save you some greeeeens
I noticed my passenger rear caliper brake pads were fading way quicker than on the driver side rear pads. The problem was the stupid caliper slid pin that got rusted in the caliper due to my days of driving in New York winter weather.
I didn't have a torch or a new brake hardware kit i could acquire and i needed my car back up and running asap, so off i went to the stealership, a whopping $438 for freaking calipers the packaging had Toyota labeling all over it.
Out of curiosity i stopped at the NAPA on my way back home, picked up a set of re-manufactured calipers for $75, made a U Turn and brought back those $438 calipers to the dealer
except this time i walked through the maintenance bay and what did i see laying in the parts room storage racks "THE SAME NAPA RE-MANUFACTURED CALIPERS" i just bought from NAPA. The tech said thats what they use for in house caliper replacement jobs. And they sell the overpriced Toyota caliper at the parts window. WTF

Did you never have your brakes serviced? They should be disassembled, rust ground off calipers, pins all relubricated every year really. It's not even that expensive to have done at a good independent shop.

What kind of lube? Long ago I tried various things, finally settled on a high-temp moly grease, similar to CV grease. Lately I've been trying silicone grease, it has a very high temp rating, seems to be holding up well on brake parts.

Which Lexus dealer is it?
This practice could bring down the dealership.

By in house replacement jobs they probably mean on used cars they are going to sell on the lot, not for customers bringing their cars in for brake replacements... unless they give the customer a choice, obviously, which many would probably take anyway if it's significantly cheaper.
