I was just quoted $585 to change the spark plugs on my 06 GS300 from my local Lexus dealer.

I have 90k miles on the car and I know they were changed at 60k but just wanted to know what they dealer charges. The service guy said its a very difficult job to do, due to the coil packs that have to be removed and that each plug cost about $60 buck, so $360 for parts the rest labor!

Serioulsy!!! Can it be that difficult to change a spark plug on this car?

i did my brother gs300 ... the spark plugs came from the dealers. i think alil over 25.00 each.... it ez 1-2 hours job with smoke n beer.. ok with out the beer 30-45

Rockauto has the plugs for $12.95 each . the coils come off with two bolts I think 7 or 10mm any way you can find a DIY here . if I find it I send you a link.

I bought the plugs and had my mechanic do it. It was like $70 in parts and $60 labor.

Yup...that quote (about $600) from the dealership is about the same that they quoted me for my GS350.

Its not much work to do, all that was removed were coils and intake tube.

Theyre overcharging you, it's really easy to do for the gs350, plus the plugs only cost like $15 each

Thanks for the replies. I was being pro-active in preparing to change the plugs for when I hit 100k, and just thought since I was at the dealer I would ask. I will likely buy OEM from Sewell and take it to a mechanic I know to do the work, I believe he charges $80 an hour for labor.

What sparked me to take the car in for an oil change prior to reaching my 5k point is the "low engine oil light" came on for about 5 seconds twice yesterday. Are these cars known for burning up oil this quickly?

So taking my car in for the oil change, tire rotation, and 27 point inspection was also because if you can believe it, I actually had a discount coupon for this service at Lexus, which cost me about $90, not bad I guess. I also feel that taking it to Lexus will document on Lexus.com website that service was done and if I ever decide to sell the car and someone pulls a Carfax report it will at least show the service history. Some people like seeing this type of info on Carfax, I know I do but now question if it worth seeing this on Carfax

So, at 7pm I get my car back from the oil change and the service advisor tells me the good and not so good. The mechanic noticed a very small amount of oil on the front engine cover, "near the timing belt", and than I had to remind the advisor the car has a timing chain. Per the mechanic its not possible to know where its leaking from and suggested they put the die in it to find the leak. I was also told its not bad enough to worry about it, Hmm!!! What does this mean?

I asked to speak to the mechanic but he had left since it was late. I was told that it is possibly sometype of seal/gasket in the front of the engine, which involves 18 hours of labor to remove the engine and replace seals/gasket at a cost of $2500, not including any parts. I started LMAO! There are no visible leaks that I can see, and no leaks underneath the car. So I paid my $90 bucks and left.

My car is out of warranty and I do not have an extended warranty. Any suggestions on what it can be?

Jesus I almost choked there when I read this, $585 to change spark plugs, do you get a happy ending with that ?

Yea I just got quoted a little bit more than that (just under 600$ for labor).
