Default Weird noise from engine

The past 2 or 3 days when i start my car i hear a very weird noise and its abnormal..I have a 08 gs 350 awd and i purchased it at the end of july from Bay Ridge Lexus, so should i take it there for servicing or maby its just something i can fix myself, i cant really explain the noise but it just doesnt sound good, and if i shut the car off and then turn it back on it doesnt make the noise

Sounds like it's the cam gear. My car is in the shop right now for the noise. Does it sound like a loud tapping noise?

im not too sure, i will find out when i turn the car on in a few, i was just reading some threads about the cam gear problem..if i bring my car to lexus with a cool air intake on do you think they will fix the cam gear? or should i take it off and then go to lexus? my car should be under warranty because its a certified preowned car

I just took my '08 350 AWD for the valve spring recall and I was having that same noise on start up randomly. The service adviser told me that my car was not in the VIN range for the cam gear problem. I was told that I had a small water pump leak and it was getting on one of my belts. Apparently that was what the problem was (at least what the tech told my service adviser). I don't believe it. I've had water on belts before and it doesn't sound anything like that. The minute mine acts up again, I'm taking it back in.

My car does sound better though. The valve ticking isn't nearly as bad now..

Your intake shouldn't void the warranty. I'd just leave it on.

They all do it in the spring I went to a show in VA and prked right next to my boy that has a 07 gs350 and i have a 06 300 similar but slightly different motors. So we check out of the hotel together and parked side by side i started my car first and whatcha know the lifter clatter was terrible, my boy looked at me and said eewww that sounded nice he started his and it did the exact same thing. It had just rained and the cool moisture was in the air that may have contributed but hey whatchu gonna do. I actually had the guy that does my oil changes put an oil additive in and haven t heard it for awhile, however i use a remote starter alot of the time.

Is there a TSB for the GS regarding engine rattle?

I posted this in a different thread but I'll post it here.

The rattle would occur as the oil pressure is building up (engine start) or dropping (engine shut down) because the cam gear has some free play (a bit too much), such that it makes that rattle sound once a while. Does not affect anything but it could be a performance issue. The updated cam gears are built with tighter tolerances to address this issue.

It's a known issue on some of the IS that my 07 IS was repaired under TSB. When I had mine repaired, I did not need to have the problem duplicated because of the way I described it and the fact that I mention the TSB that Lexus OKed to go ahead and work on it.

Well my car is at the dealer as is, its probably considered modified, probably more then a little! It depends on the dealer itself I guess. I don't see how am intake can affect a started cam...
