GS350 Brake Dust
is it only me or has any of my fellow lexus owners had problems with excessive brake dust? wash my car monday and by wednesday my front wheels are black. i thought since the car was new that the brakes had to go through a breakin period. 2000K miles later and the excessive brake dust still continues to loom. does anyone have a rememdy for this or is it just something i have to deal with.

yah you don't know what break dust is on wheels til you've had a german car with multi piece wheels with a polished lip and no finish. (my A4) the front wheels get all black and you can barely tell they're supposed to be shiney rims

I don't notice any brake dust on my '06 GS300. Buy, previously I had a Mercedes E320 and cleaning brake dust after every drive was the only way to keep them clean. It was awful.
I then purchased brake dust shields called Kleen Wheels and that was a tremendous help. But, there are pro's and con's of brake dust covers. The two big cons are aesthetically they aren't very attractive, depending on the wheel design. And two, some people say the brakes don't get enough airflow to cool the brakes properly so your braking ability is impaired. I personally never noticed a braking problem when I had Kleen Wheels.
If I owned a car today that had excessive brake dust I wouldn't use dust dust shields again. Of course another possibility is to look into changing your brake pads with a different type that generates less brake dust.

I have a BMW now (converting to Lexus soon...) and let me tell you about some awful brake dust from stock pads. It looks like someone rubbed charcoal on my rims daily...horrible. One solution is to get Hawk HPS pads, a lot of bimmer guys switch to those, but they're still not nearly dustless. If you choose to wipe your wheels once the dust is on there, you run the risk of embedding brake dust (technically a metallic compound) into the finish of the wheel. Best solution I've come across is wheel wax. I've seen a lot of people use Poorboy's, but there's plenty others out there. Use it just like car/paint wax and it'll create a protective barrier on your wheels and wiping them won't cause any microscopic damage...plus not as much dust will stick in the first place. Good luck.

Best dustless pads I've ever used was Endless brands!!
Almost no dust at all without sacrificing brake performance!!
Only problem was that I had to give up free brake pad replacement covered by maintanance warranty... and my BMW dealer refused to install aftermarket brake pads...

My G35 Coupe gets brakes dust when I go up one block! However the car stops great! I had my first set of break pads changed under a dealer campaign because of premature brake pad wear. They were replaced at 13,000 miles. It is not uncommon for tires and brakes on high performance cars to be replaced more often than conventional cars. When the Lexus owners start telling us when the GS needs pad replacements we will know more about this issue and it's expense. It's all the price for owning a high end performance car. However I never considered the GS as a real performance or sports car.

hmmm seems you havent driven the GS350. it may not be top dog in performance. it may not be top dog as far as a sports car goes. in the category/combination of luxury/sport/performance it's at the tops of its game. thats my story and im sticking to it.
