Default PCS/Dynamic Cruise Control dealer installable?

I really like my gs300, but the only feature I really miss (aside from a v8) is the radar dynamic cruise control feature... no cars in California seem to have it. What are the chances that it would be a dealer installable option?

Default Not available except from the factory and ...

usually will require a special order. The cost of the option will send the price too high for most dealers. It is an interesting option however. It makes more sense on the GS430 because it also turns the suspension to Sport when it senses an inevitable collision so if you have to make a move it is ready. The brake Assist is active and your seat belts are tightened and braced for impact......

I'm was also very interested in PCS but more so for the cruise control. It's crazy. So many vehicles have this option these days and Lexus seems to make it difficult to acquire. I guess they're settling in on their technology.

The pattern I've always seen of Lexus is to release technology slowly. Testing before release can only provide limited results. Lexus started with Laser Cruise on a few vehicles and discovered dirty roads will cause it to become ineffective. MB started with radar and their gamble paid off. Lexus now has a new system in place and it's best to probably release only a handful to see what real world issues might show up.

It's be my guess that it will turn up standard just like rain sensing wipers just as soon as the following two things happen. Lexus achieves a near trouble free report on the few vehicles that have this feature (That will make it more available as an option.) As soon as Lexus releases another feature with the spotlight cast on it, it will include this standard just like rain sensing wiperes.

That's my take.

You wont see it until later in the year, and in very small numbers.

I had the laser cruise control on my 2001 LS430 and I think I used it twice in four years. Living in Los Angeles there are very few times one can use any type of cruise control--let alone a laser one that keeps you a MINIMUM of three car lenghts away from the person in from of you.

I did use it once when driving to San Francisco. The bigest problem with it is the minimum distance and that it will only set at 87MPH max. Not very useful on the open highway.

Yes. I think the new systems have been greatly improved.

That's correct, the new GS' Dynamic Cruise Control system is not laser based like the LS430.

Actually, it appears that no cars in the US have been delivered yet with PCS. I took delivery of my GS430 yesterday and I had ordered it with PCS but it came without it. When I inquired what went wrong with the order, it turns out that when the '06 GS model options were entered into the ordering system, the PC option code was accidentally deleted from the manufacturing system via human error. Hence, even if you tried to order the PC option, it was never transmitted to the factory.

I am told the error wasn't caught until last week, so it will be a few months before any vehicles start showing up with that option nationwide.
