I hit a truck tire blowout on the highway at about 65 mph! Ouch!
Coming home last night from NYC, i'm driving down back to Newark on the Pulaski skyway where the local lane and express lanes split. I'm driving about 55 - 65 mph when i exit to the local lanes. Before I could react, i'm driving over this huge truck tire blowout tire from a truck blowout in the other lane. BAM....CRASH..$$*%@$@)#$#. I almost lost total control and lose the car to the side concrete. My car must have jumped in the air for about 1 foot before tires regained ground. I slowed down and was hearing scraping from the undercarriage and I KNEW THIS WAS NOT GOING TO BE GOOD.
I pulled over about 100 feet ahead. I got out and began to assess the damage. My foglights are GONE! Front bumper is destroyed. Passenger side skirt is damaged as well as fender. Under engine cover GONE! ....I'm thinking to myself not too bad. I go back in the car and think to myself before leaving..i better check under the hood. I open the hood and find more damage. Radiator is not leaking but took a big hit as well. Radiator cross mount support under it is bent like 5 inches in!
I have no idea what the cost to repair all this stuff will be! My insurance company will probably find me at fault so i'm not sure whether I should report it or just pay the repair myself. I'll take some pictures later on for you guys. Any ideas what $$$ damage this may add up to and whether i should fill file the accident and report it to my insurance company?

Oh man - that's terrible. That could be very costly. Not sure about the 'fault' on your part. Those kind of accidents are nearly unavoidable. I would call ans ask your insurance carrier about it, but not file a claim.

Did you file a report with the highway patrol about the tire? They are suppose to clear those things out of the highway and if they don't in a reasonable period of time they could be liable. A friend of mine had a tire replaced because of damage caused by the highway in california a number of years ago.

Looks like it could end up being very costly. I hope the insurance will cover it.

I'm sure I can get it repaired. I'm getting lots of practice lately at this repair stuff !!! I have the equivalent of frequent flyer miles at my body shop...maybe i'll redeem some of those "miles" to take care of this repair!
