Default High speed clicking (not brake booster)

Hi all,

A search hasn't brought up anything similar to my issue so hope you can help...

Whilst driving with the window open I can hear a fast clicking noise from (I think) the rear wheel, almost like when you freewheel a pushbike? This noise gets much louder when I apply the brakes.

I've jacked the car up and rotated wheels by hand and the noise is not there. Wheel bearings are fine.

The clicking is faster than if a stone was stuck in the tyre so seems to be more disc/hub related.

Hoping it's not the rear diff, as previous owner upgraded to supra LSD and was a nightmare to source.

I'm stumped

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Lift the rear with a pair of jack stands and a couple blocks of wood up on front tires ( or jack stand the whole car) put it in drive and and have someone go back there with a stethoscope (or a hose) and pinpoint where its coming from. Thats the best way to narrow down any sound coming from anywhere.

I think I have the same problem. Except my noise seems to be coming from the front and it is only noticeable when pressing on the brake with the windows down. Had this problem for about 6 months now and everything is fine on the car. Hope you find an answer. Need to try Mr. Jokster idea.

Are you by any chance running 3 piece rims? I recently had a progressively loud clicking noise that got worse when I made right hand turns and accelerating from a complete stop.
Thought it was the front bearing going bad but it turned out that a few bolts on my 3 piece rims were loose and allowed my rim to flex causing that clicking noise.
I found this problem when I removed that specific 3 piece wheel and place another wheel on... only to find that the clicking noise is completely gone!! I then placed that same suspected wheel back on and the noise came back.
I ended up stripping and rebuilding the rim and noise disappeared for a solid month so far!! Hope this is of some help.

Unfortunately no, I'm not lucky enough to have a nice set of rums like that

One possible thought is my rear pads are getting very low and I have drilled and grooved discs on the rear... Wonder if it's sound or worn pad against the disc? I'll tho guy some new pads this weekend
