Default Painting headlight housings

I am going to paint my housings black the same as my car, however I'd rather not spend 35 bucks on one can of factory color matched spray paint. Would I be okay with just any gloss paint or does it need to be automotive grade? Would it match the onyx black on my car or would it look too different?

don't cheap out.... I would hate to cheap out on something that involves cracking the headlight open. no your black wont match the onxy black. spend the 35$ and do it right. its a cheap mod that will look well

Don't spend the $35 on anything spray can related.

Do it right, base / clear

If you do a single stage, especially inside of a headlight, you will have to redo it at some point. Take it from someone who does this **** for a living.......for a long time.......

Thanks, I'll definitely just do it right the first time.

If not a spray can what do you suggest? And I was planning on doing primer, base, then clear.

You can get a spray gun at harbor freight for $50, if you keep it clean it will work well for a long time

Don't use primer you don't need it, you can use a sealer but again you don't need it.

What you want to do is prep the housings meticulously, then get your hands on this stuff called adhesion promoter (this comes in a spray can and needs a light coat) then start spraying your base in light "dust" coats, once it looks good in base lay one final coat so you make sure you don't miss anything then clear it (I wouldn't do more than 2 coats with a tack coat first because it's interior)
