Did My Steering Rack Bushings
Hey guys. I did my steering rack bushings this morning using the DIY listed on the forum. It was really straight forward and the DIY is awesome. Now that I test drove it, I can call out a few things.
1) Procedure itself is easy and straightforward. The DIY may have been done on a GS4xx as I didn't have the lines blocking the passenger side bolts.
2) Raising the car on a rack would have made this a lot easier for leverage, but, can easily be done on jack stands like in my case.
3) The car handles much better and it's clear that the old bushings were good and worn.
4) Steering wheel shake while braking was greatly reduced, but, at the end of the day, a brake job is still needed.
5) I don't think that the DIY calls out an allignment, but, I think its best to do one. My steering wheel is a degree or two off center since doing this service.
6) Finally, while hammering out the bushings on the driver side, I found that its easier to do from the front of the car for both than from the back on the bottom. I also used a long flat head and beat it out that way. It seemed to go out easier. Could be me, but hey... Who knows.
Thanks to this forum to make DIYs easy and cheap! This is the one that I used.
