Default 02' GS300 Passing Speed Questions (?)

Hello,

I am new to this site; therefore, I hope I am I'm in the right GS300 generation forum. If not, please forgive me. I am also new to the luxury Lexus line up as well.

I recently purchased an 02' GS300 with 128K miles on the car. The car runs and drives like it was new. However, I've noticed that the car lack of passing power. It takes about 7-10 seconds before I can get from 45 to 60 MPH. The gas mileage is average and there's no missing or hissing sound of anything with the engine. The engine does not use anymore that I can tell for the last 3K miles. There is one CEL code and it was the P0446 - As far as I can tell, this code is related to the Evap system.

Has anyone experienced this symptom or know of anyone else had this issue? I would like to fix the issue with lack of passing power.

Please help!!

Thank you,

Jay

I meant to say that the engine does not use any oil since I changed it 3K miles ago.

Thanks.

Welcome to a fellow Minnesotan! I don't have a 300 so I can't speak to what would be normal acceleration, just wanted to welcome you. There's tons of good info here on just about any question regarding these cars if you search.

Thank you,

What kind of throttle are you giving it?it should not take you 10 seconds to get from 45 to 60.

The way he describe sounds like something is restricting the engine, can you go WOT from a stand still without a problem? It takes me 2-3 seconds to get from 45-60 (depending on how much throttle you give), I know cause I do it constantly because of my heavy foot (torque feels great).

You might need to do a tune up, change fuel filter and/or pump, clean injectors; but before you do all that diagnose and repair what's causing that CEL code you have to see if it fixes the problem, could be a vacuum leak. Glad I did my fuel pump and filter my car feels a bit faster.

The driver possibly?

But seriously, is the trans kicking down when you get into the throttle?

No, I drive like I stole it!! No hesitations street driving. I can feel that the gear changed when I stomped on it, especially on the on ramp. I don't think the fuel filter or the fuel pump is he main focus here. I believe the problem might be the catalytic converter. I will crawl under the car this weekend and see if I can hear anything rattling in the cats while banging with the Mallet hammer.

Thanks.
