DC P0440 large leaks in evap system. A smoke test shows canister leak, not overflow filter.

REPLACE 2001 LEXUS GS300 I6 CHARCOAL CANISTER P/N
77740-30273 (There are many canister versions. Check VIN for the correct canister P/N)

Done by an ASE mechanic with a little bit of help from me in 2 hours. Did not have to drop the fuel tank or remove suspension and exhaust pipes. (The overflow valve filter is on top of the tank which would have to be dropped to replace. Guys have cut through the floor under rear seat to reach the filter. that may cause fire risks). The work was not hard but requires long extension tubes and swivel sprockets to reach the nuts and bolts on the chassis. It would take about only 1 hour for front-wheel cars.

1. Loosen right rear wheel 5 lugs, chock 2 front tires rolling forward

2. Jack rear car, use 2 jack stands support

3. Remove right rear wheel and plastic splash guard 2 x10mm

4. Get under car, removed the 3 nuts that hold the canister, disconnect 3 hoses and the 2 connectors.

5. Remove the mounting bracket at the canister's back side completely, 2 bolts on the right side of the canister and 2 nuts holding bracket to chassis. Canister will fall down on the axle.

6. Jack up brake knuckle. Remove 1 big horizontal bolt holding brake knuckle to strut.

7. in wheel well, jack subframe up in 2 places, front and rear. Loosen 2 big vertical bolts holding subframe to chassis, lower it enough for clearance to pull canister out, do not need to remove bolts completely.

8. Insert new canister in same way.

9. Assemble 3 nuts holding canister up to chassis

10. Connect 3 hoses and 2 connectors

11. Assemble bracket, 2x10mm bolts, 2x10mm nuts

12. Tighten 2 big vertical bolts holding subframe to chassis.

13. Jack up knuckle, assemble horizontal bolt holding to struts.

14. Assemble plastic splash guard

15. Assemble wheel, tighten to torque.
